Search and validate your healthcare provider data with the most trusted sources.

We transparently present publicly available federal government and private companies data sources. With our tool, you can find:

  • Federal Tax Identifier (EIN)
  • UnitedHealthcare Out-of-Network Status Monthly Updated
  • License information
  • Other IDs, such as Medicaid ID and PECOS ID (Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System)
  • NPPES Pending Application Status Semiweekly Updated
  • Medicare Order and Referring Eligibility Status Semiweekly Updated
  • Business and mailing addresses
  • Affiliated organizations
  • Neighboring providers that share the same addresses
  • (and more)

To list some of our data sources for the above information,

  • NPI Files: The National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) is the starting point of our data curation. We refresh the data on the 15th of each month.
  • Medicare Fee-For-Service Public Provider Enrollment: The data.cms.gov site publishes the list of Medicare-enrolled providers and their PECOS IDs. The data is updated quarterly.
  • Revalidation Clinic Group Practice Reassignment: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires Medicare-enrolled providers to validate their information every 3 to 5 years. This data source contains the relationships between individual and affiliated organization providers.
  • Medicare Order and Referring Eligibility Status: The CMS publishes the Order and Referring Eligibility statuses of the Medicare-enrolled providers. The data is updated twice a week.
  • Pending Initial Logging and Tracking Physicians: The CMS publishes the list of pending provider applications twice a week.
  • UnitedHealthcare Transparency in Coverage: We download the in-network and out-of-network provider data from UnitedHealthcare at the beginning of each month. The data contains the Federal Tax ID (TIN or EIN) and in- or out-of-network statuses.
  • (and more; we are continually expanding the list of data sources.)

Finding Healthcare Providers Demo using NPI Explorer - Watch Video

To Get Started!

Using the search bar on the top right, you can look up healthcare providers who have records in the NPPES database. You can search by either NPI or Name. If you see multiple providers with the same name, you can refine your search by typing cities or states they practice. If you see a provider you are looking for in the dropdown menu, you can simply click the dropdown menu, and the site will redirect to the provider details page.

If you already know the NPI of the provider, e.g. 1234567890, then you can find the provider details page directly by typing a URL as follows:

https://npi-db.org/npi/{10_digit_npi_number}

Replace the `{10_digit_npi_number}` part with your NPI.

About NPI Explorer

The information on this page is regularly updated using a handful of publicly available datasets from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. We applied minimal processing to show the data as-is. If you find any errors or misinformation, the best way to fix them is to ask the provider to update their information on the NPPES system directly. Once you update your records in the system, the new data will show up by the next month's data refreshing cycle.

If you are a developer who wants to use the data via RestAPI, please check out the API Docs page. Our API is currently offered at no cost, so please use it at your discretion. If you need massive API calls, please get in touch with mimilabs.ai - we are more than happy to help you.
